729 Colors by Julia Samuels is an aquatint etching printed and published by the artist in 2023. The image is comprised of a 27x27 grid of squares showing one example each of every possible color combination made from printing 3 different plates containing 9 tones each. Mimicking in print the regimented color mixing logic Gerhard Richter employed in his many color grid paintings, Samuels has created an etching that shows the brilliant expanse of colors possible while being most conservative and efficient using aquatint plates by maximizing overlaps and earned colors.

A suite of six woodcuts printed on Rives BFK paper

Edition of 6, 3 to be sold in sets, 3 sold individually
Printed and published by the artist
From the vantage point of a passenger in a car speeding down a highway, “From One Minute on April 29th, 2009” is a set of consecutive digital pictures. The series contrasts old and new media (digital camera and woodcut); fast and slow (the speed of the highway and the slow carving process); a blurry subject and a crisp medium; natural and man made elements; literal representation and gestural abstraction. “From One Minute on April 29th, 2009” expands the single initial moment into the 6 year process of developing the images into their final form, and viewed as one recompresses that time back to a single moment. The set captures speed and motion while compressing trees and high tension power lines into a single plane.

This print shows the intersection of America and Federal Streets in Providence, RI, a neighborhood called Federal Hill. While it is a specific location, its title, America Street points to the idea that neighborhoods like these exist across our country.
Spacial perspective is enforced in the illustration of the road way and power lines leading to a far off vanishing point. The viewpoint is from inside a car, a symbol of our complaisance, addiction and daily contribution to global warming. and the foreground shows reflections off the dashboard.
